《詩》云：… 「如切如磋」者，道學也；「如琢如磨」者，自修也。…

In the Book of Poetry, it is said, … “As we cut and then file,” indicates the work of learning;  “As we chisel and then grind,” indicates that of self-culture. …

【译文】 这里所说的 “如加工骨器，不断切磋”，是指做学问的态度；这里所说的“如打磨美玉，反复琢磨”，是指自我修炼的精神。

【白话解】『如切如磋』是指研究学问的功夫；『如琢如磨』是指存养省察，磨练德行的功夫。
