《論語》《泰伯》8.9 :

子曰：「民可，使由之; 不可，使知之。」

【AF Translation】The Master said, “When people can, let them do it; if they cannot, teach them to understand it.”

【白话解】孔子说：「人民的知见正确，可以由他们去做为，人民不懂道理时就要教育而使其具有智慧。」

※ 按：本章常遭误解，被解释为人民只要叫他去做，不必告诉他为什么？以为夫子有愚民政策，有愚民思想！

【Alternative translation】The Master said, “The people may be made to follow, we cannot make them understand.”

【试译】孔子说：“教化人民，可以让他们跟好人学好样，不必让他们听多少道德说教。”
