《論語》《學而》1.8 :

子曰：「君子不重則不威，學則不固。主忠信，無友不如己者，過則勿憚改。」

The Master said, “If the scholar be not grave, he will not call forth any veneration, and his learning will not be solid. Hold faithfulness and sincerity as first principles. Have no friends not equal to yourself. When you have faults, do not fear to abandon them.”

【Alternative translation】The Master said, “A gentleman will not be looked up to unless he is staid, nor will his learning be sound. Put faithfulness and truth first; have no friends unlike thyself; be not ashamed to mend thy faults.”

【現代漢語翻譯】孔子說：「君子不穩重就不會有威嚴，經常學習就不會固執，一切要以忠信為本，不要結交不如自己的朋友，有錯誤不要怕改正。」

【原文】子曰：「君子不重则不威，学则不固。主忠信；毋友不如己者；过则勿惮改。」

【白话解】孔子说：「一个君子，如果不庄重就不威严，不为人尊敬,肯向学就不至于顽固粗陋。行事当以忠信为主；不要和不如己的人为友！如发现自己有了过失，不要害怕去改。」

【试译】孔子说：“君子不自重，就没有威信，学问就不扎实。主要靠忠信处世，也没有哪个朋友是不如自己的，有了过错就不要怕改正。”
